Yeah riverbanks are fertile most of them, but not all ,river banks are fertile because the flow of water brings minerals from different parts of the country and are accumulated at some areas where some areas may lose fertility as water flow also takes away minerals,,that’s why underground water also differs in taste and minerals at different places(there are also many other factors which effect underground water but rivers are one of the reason),, now you may get a question how underground water is related to flow of river?,, flow of river nearby increases underground water levels ,,it is directly proportional to it,that is why you find underground water good near by areas of an river you need not dig too deep to get the water ,mostly south india uses underground water or river canals for agriculture,,final conclusion is as river brings minerals through out the country river banks are rich in minerals and are fertile as river brings minerals with the flow of water mixed from different places .
