sewage consists a lot of organic material which settles on the water surface as algae. this algae thrives on oxygen and takes up most of the oxygen received by the water body for its own growth and propagation. this reduces biological oxygen demand of the water body and its quality degrades over time making it uninhabitable for any living organism
