Beneficial effects of soil erosion:

  • Soil erosion can help in the distribution of nutrients over different regions which can benefit various types of biodiversities.
  • It can result in the formation of new landscapes and natural monuments.
  • It also helps in removing toxins from the soil and cleansing it.

Harmful effects of soil erosion:

  • Since soil erosion strips off the upper layer of the soil, they result in land losing fertility.
  • It can destroy habitats, mainly aquatic habitats since soil erosion through water carries all the chemicals and wastes into the water bodies.
  • It lowers the water retention quality of the soil.
