The deposits can be cleaned using dilute phosphoric acid, which will dissolve the carbonate and bicarbonate but will not affect the metal surface.

Deposits of the carbonate layer on any metal surface cannot be cleaned with the normal water wash.
We can either use detergent substances which contain calcium carbonate or mild acids like citric acid etc.
Or we can apply a dilute acid solution on the metal surface(eg. Phosphoric acid, Acetic acid etc.).
These methods will easily clean the carbonate layer without harming the metal surface.
