see there are several ways by which environment could be affected :-
● impact on water
In coal-based power plant, the water requirements is high. After the usage, the wet dry ash is set into ash ponds, a structural place for the disposal of ash. This very ash ponds contains harmful heavy metals. Due to this the groundwater gets contaminated and becomes unsuitable for domestic use.
● Impact on land
thermal power plant is usually situated near mining areas. It covers a large area for the requirement. Due to this, natural soil properties changes. It becomes more alkaline
● Impact on flora and fauna
flora: land aquisiton, leads to loss of habitat for many species
fauna: release of waste in different water bodies harm the aquatic life.
●Socio-economic factor
it includes the problems faced by the people. the coal based plant has the highest number of accidents due to hazardous working conditions. Emission of harmful gases in atmosphere not only affect humans but also affects the atmospheric weather and climate conditions in long run.
●Conclusion: thermal power plant affects different environment segments very badly. large amount of SO, NO and SPM( suspended particulate matter) are generated which dance the environment and are highly responsible for deterioration of health of human beings, animal kingdom as well as plants. SPAM gets deposited on the plants which affect photosynthesis and growth of plants.
