Equality: A democratic person will treat all his fellow citizens; notwithstanding their caste, community, colour and gender equally. In our caste ridden and patriarchal society where caste based atrocities and gender biases still persist; this is extremely important.Fraternity: democracy involves a sense of fellow-feeling with all citizens of one’s country and people of the world.Freedom: At individual level It means being respectful to people's personal space and showing respect to a point of view contrary to one's own beliefs. In a family life he will give due respect to opinions of his wife and children regarding their life and career.Scientific temper and rationalism:- a democratic person will not be influenced by superstitious beliefs and customs. He will apply and promote habits of rational thinking, which applies reason to make judgements and formulate opinions.Secularism: It is one of the most important pillars of democracy. A democratic person will respect all religions and will not be influenced by divisive propaganda and things aimed to create il -will and hatred among people in the name of religion.
A person who applies democratic principles in his own life will not only follow but also spread ideas of rationality, scientific temper, equality, freedom and secularism. He will act in his personal capacity to create a harmonious society which guarantees dignity of all.
