Demagnetization is the process whereby a magnet loses all of its magnetic properties. The magnet most prone to demagnetisation is the ferrite magnet due to the alloy it is made of, however all magnets can be demagnetized.
To avoid demagnetizing we should follow these guidelines:
(1)Separating your magnets.
(2)Keep away from high temperatures.
(3)Store with a keeper.
(4)Avoid electrical currents.
(5)Store in pairs.
(6)Keep magnets in a dry place.
(7)Avoid damaging the magnet.

The best method to use in prevention of self-demagnetization of a permanent magnet is by use of a keeper. Keepers were also commonly known as amateurs. They help in storing magnets safely, especially those that have low coercivity ( magnets that are extremely susceptible to stray fields). The keepers help in maintaining the strength of the magnet by completing the magnetic circuit when they are not in use.
