The soil that has calcium, as well as limestone, is able to neutralize the impact of the sulphuric and nitric acid depositions as compared to a thin layer of gravel or sand along with a granite base.

This happens due to the fact that the limestone as well as the marble have a more alkaline base and generate a greater level of pH when dissolved in water.

Thus by adding limestone, the soil can be made fertile again.
