How can the valency of an element be determined if the electronic configuration is known ?

Valency → The combining capacity of the element. Any element needs to complete its octet to achieve nearest noble gas configuration.

For any element having electronic configuration where electron in the outermost shell is 1, 2, 3 or 4 then it's valency becomes (outermost electron) that is 1, 2, 3, or 4 respectively.

For any element having electronic configuration where electron in the outermost shell is 5, 6 or 7 it's valency becomes [8-(outermost electron) ] that is 3,2,1 respectively.

Valency of noble gases is zero
