Explanation:

a) To get resistance of 4 Ohm

Connect the 3 Ohm and 6 Ohm resistance in parallel condition and then connect the 2 Ohm resistance in series

1/R_{1} = 1 /3 + 1 /6

       = 3 /6 = 1 /2

R_{1} = 2 Ohm

Total resistance = 2 + 2 = 4 Ohm

b) To get resistance of 1 Ohm

Connect all the resistors in parallel

1 /R = 1 /2 + 1 /3 + 1 /6 = 6 /6

R = 1 Ohm

Total resistance = 1 Ohm
