There are number of methods for measuring transpiration:
- Weighing method
- Potometer method
Weighing method:
A small lightweight potted plant can be weighed before and after the end of a certain period of time. For it the soil surface and the pond should be fully covered to prevent evaporation from the surface is other than the plant. The loss of weight by the plant during that time is due to the loss of water by transpiration.
Potometer method:
Potometer is a device that measures the rate of water intake by a plant, and this water intake is almost equal to the water loss through transpiration.
