Here, are some ways to prevent iron from rusting:

1. Paint it: Paint the metal with any duarble acrylic paint. Do not use Water-Soluble paints, since, they will only worsen then rust. Rust will form underneath this type of paint.

2. Keep moisture at bay: Avoid contact with water and moisture. We know that the water has chemical formula which corresponds to 2 parts hydrogen and 1 part Oxygen. Hence, Oxygen is responsible for oxidation of iron and therefores, forms rust.

3. Coat it with oil: Use of oil greases significantly reduces the chances of developing rust in iron. Basically, oil or grease from a protective layer over iron just as paint does and therefore prevent rust formation.
