Federalism is the form of government in which the power is divided among different political groups. Under this, the governing power is not in hands of one entity but under different groups.

Democracy is the system of government which is selected by the people through elections. Any candidate winning the elections would take the seat, whether it be a local, provincial or federal seat.

Federalism is the basis of democracy. India is a federal state, in which the government is divided according to the seats the political party wins. One political party forms the central government while the provincial governments also have members of other political parties.

Through federalism, the power is divided and there are less chances of rebellious attitudes. There is less opposition that protects the country from unrest and democracy may prevail.

Federalism allows people from different and many regions to and together and form a government.
Federalism allows much larger government to exist without as much conflict within the country as each region is largely self managed at the state and also at the local level.
All people of different cultures, social norms and circumstances are brought together through federalism in which there differences are set aside.
