Because we really don´t. Pretty much every election is rigged, manipulated or stolen at the presidential level. During the last presidential election results were announced when there were millions and millions of votes outstanding, in an area where Lopez Obrador had widespread support. After the election, there were widespread reports of votes being purchased with giftcards from various supermarkets, amoung other things. Even man people who believe this is true, just shrug and say ¨oh well¨ because it has been that way for so long. If a democracy is a government by the people and for the people, no, we don´t have that and have not for a hundred years. The last number of presidents have all been rich, elite and left office even richer. There have even been assassinations of politicians who were thought to be going to make a true change, even at the presidential level. In 1994 the PRI presidental candidate was murdered in Tijuana, many believe by his own party. There have been many others, at various levels.
