You need to make the case for what you’re calling diversity and what benefits you claim. Is it for society economically? Culturally? To improve opportunity for a special interest group you favor?
I hardly think having the KKK around is a good thing, even though I suppose they ‘add to diversity.’ Not fond of the Neo-Nazi contribution, either.
If a given religion holds one path to God, they’re not going to be enthused with other religions that deny that. It would be irrational.
On the other hand, gotta love those ethnic food choices!
Let’s say an American company, or university, recruits a high-end brilliant scientific researcher from China, and he’s very productive. That’s great. Now, is the benefit that we were willing to pull in top talent from diverse sources…or that we’ve got a minority who looks a little different from Caucasians?
If you’re out to make conservatives and liberals appreciate each other more, well…
I do think diversity has value in that people with different strengths are available to step up as the difficulties we face change. Sometimes you need type A alpha males running into burning buildings or shooting enemy. Sometimes you need brainiacs improving technology.
Now, determination that every t.v. show cast should have a token black guy, a gay person and somebody ‘in drag’ (in the near future), not my idea of strength through diversity, but it seems popular with some people.
See, the problem with your idea is that diversity is so diverse.
