Aim of the experiment : To test the presence of protein in the given food sample.


Materials required : mortar and pestle, test tube, dropper, concentrated nitric acid.


Procedure :

  • Crush some bean seeds in a mortar and pestle.
  • Make a suspension using water.
  • Take little suspension in test tube.
  • Add few drops of concentrated nitric acid.

Observation : Observe the colour change.


If the colour changes in to yellow, the given food sample contains protein.
