Benzene can be converted into benzoic acid as follows. Step-1:—Conversion of benzene into benzaldehyde. Benzene on treatment with CO and HCl in presence of anhydrous AlCl₃,formylation takes place to give benzaldehyde. Step-2:—Conversion of benzaldehyde into benzoic acid.
