As we know that inside the magnet magnetic field moves from south to north and outside the magnet from north to south. So by taking a cardboard and spreading some iron fillings on it keep a bar magnet in the centre. Observe that how the iron feelings start to move in respect to the magnetic fields. The end from where we can see them moving out is it's north pole and the end from which these feelings try to move in is it's south pole.
Another experiment you can try is by taking a bar magnet and taking a compass. Moving the compass we can get the north and the south pole of the bar magnet.
