Most of us learn that insects, fish, reptiles and amphibians are cold blooded because their body temperature changes along with the external temperature, while birds and mammals are warm blooded because they maintain a high body temperature regardless of the external temperature.

It not like warm-blooded organisms have warm blood or cold blooded organisms have cold blood. Some organisms have the tendency to keep the body temperature constant regardless the temperature of their surroundings. These have a body temperature slightly higher than the temperature of the surroundings and are called warm blooded organisms. On the other hand; the rest organisms tend to change their body temperature to match the temperature of their surroundings. This tendency helps in avoiding problems arising due to sudden and/or drastic(very high) change in temperature. These are known as cold blooded organisms.
