If the number of electrons in the outermost shell is less than 4, then the valency is the same as the number of electrons in the outermost shell. For example, if the number of valence electrons are 2, the valency of the atom is 2.

You can easily find valency by learning elements present in a group of periodic table because same group elements has same valency.

If the element has 0 to 4 electron in their valence shell then their valency isrespectively as valence electron

When the valence electron are more than 4 then subtract the valence electron element from 8.

By this two methods you can get valency of element but always learn some elements have variable valency more than one valency
