how can we identify acids and bases with taste

Sour taste receptors detect dissolved hydrogen ions. In other words, sourtaste receptors are pH detectors. Manyacids also taste bitter, and this is because they bind to bitter tastereceptors. The sweet taste of sugar is not related to pH

Taste the liquid if it is safe to do so. If youdetermine that your liquid is safe to drink,taste a sample. You can distinguish acidsby their sour taste (lemons are high in citric acid). Bases can be identified by a bitter taste (mustard is basic).
