Let us first understand the meaning of sorrow.Sorrow means ‘a feeling of deep distress caused by loss, disappointment, or other misfortune suffered by oneself or others’. It is evident that sorrow is connected with something in the past. You have committed some mistake, some misjudgment and that has caused you some loss, disappointment or misfortune. You are now feeling the pain as the questions which are bothering you all the time are:-

Why did I commit that mistake?

Why did I not do the right thing at the right time?

Sorrow is not a useless emotion. It has a positive role in improving our life. It gives you pain so that you can focus your mind on your mistakes and learn the lesson from them and not commit the same mistake again. Most people however, do just the opposite. Instead of listening to the message, they shoot the messenger. Instead of analyzing their mistakes and learn the lessons, they try to forget their sorrow by finding some escape route like drinking, meditation, prayer, keeping themselves busy in work, taking drugs etc. These methods can help you forget your sorrow for some time, but soon they come back to your mind with increased intensity. Hence you again try to run away from your sorrow and try to forget it and this cycle never stops.

Instead, please understand the cause of sorrow and learn the lessons from your mistake, even if these lessons are bitter and painful. If a person is the source of your sorrow, you now understand the person better. If your particular action is the cause of your sorrow, find out the alternatives and ensure that you don’t commit the same mistake again and take the best action next time.

Once you have learned your lessons from your past mistake, you will be amazed to see how your mind is free from the worries of the past and how easily you can live in present. You would be able to now concentrate on your studies effortlessly. You will be more confident and hopeful for the future and that will make you happy in most natural way
