how can we know a solution is acidic or basic in nature using litmus paper

when dipping litmus paper in a solution....... if litmus paper turns into blue to red then it is acidic and when it turns into red to blue then it is basic...

Litmus are generally of two colour red and blue :-


CASE 1 :-


Acid :-


when the BLUE Litmus turn BLUE to Red then the solution is acidic in nature.



the RED litmus paper does not change its colour in acidic medium.

when the RED Litmus Paper turn RED to BLUE :-


then the solution is called basic medium.




blue Litmus Paper does not change its colour in basic medium.
