I will give you an example of how it makes sense. Lets say you wish to work in a big Multi National Corporation (MNC) in the managerial post then you have to have a degree which allows you to do so such as MBA. For studying MBA you have two pathways:

  1. General MBA (like Class 10 subjects you have to study everything)
  2. Sectoral MBA (like Classes 11 to 12 where you choose to study in a specific stream)*

The above two must make sense of what I am trying to answer here.

If you chose to do Economics but you are certain that you will be good at other fields too then General MBA will help you in that.

If you chose Economics as your major subjects or an honors in your college degree (undergraduate) and wish to apply for MBA in Capital Markets then your knowledge will help you to attain a job of your interest because they all connect. This is sectoral MBA.
