Here are some difference between monocots and dicots. By these, you can notice whether a weed is a monocot or a dicot.
MONOCOT:
1) They have adventitious(fibrous) roots.
2) They have sessle leaf.
3) They have trimerous flowers.
4) They have weak stem.
5) They have parallel venation in leaf.
DICOTS:
1) They have tap root.
2) They have stalked leaf.
3) They have pentamerous flowers.
4) They have strong stem.
5) They have reticulate venation in leaf.
Hope this helps....

Also monocots have seeds with one cotyledon whereas dicots have seeds with two cotyledons.
