How can we recombine the components of white light after a prism has separated them? Draw a diagram to illustrate it.

When white light passes from a prism it gets dispersed in band of seven colors ( Vibgyor) , this is called spectrum.

Now after entering the prism the light gets refracted and then dispersed.

If we want to recombine the spectrum in a white light then we need to again refract it. This can be done by setting two prims inverted to each other, so as the light enters one and gets dispersed then it enters the second one which agin recombine the band of a colors in a white light.

More to know :-

  1. Refractive index of a medium is the ratio of speed of light in air to speed of light in that medium.
  2. Snell ' s law of refraction states that for a given pair of medium and for light of a given wavelength the ratio of sine of angle of incidence to sine of angle of refraction is always constant.
  3. Critical Angle is the angle of incidence at which angle of refraction becomes 90°.
  4. In total internal reflection the light ray gets reflected in the same medium, and it takes place when angle of incidence is more than critical angle
