To Represent

  • √2 on the number line

Solution:

Let's consider Pythagoras Theorem in ABC for representation of 2

\small\implies{\sf } Pythagoras Theorem = = +

\small\implies{\sf } Hypotenuse = Perpendicular² + Base²

\small\implies{\sf } Hypotenuse = 1²+1²

\small\implies{\sf } Hypotenuse = 2

Point P represent 2

Steps of Construction

  • Step 1 : Draw a number Line and mark the center point 0

  • Step 2 : Mark right side of the O as (+ve) and Left side as (-ve)

  • Step 3 : We will not consider (–1) for our purpose

  • Step 4 : With same length as between 0 and 1, draw a line perpendicular to point (1), such that new line has a length of 1 unit.

  • Step 5 : Join the point 0 and the end of new line

  • Step 6 : Hence, A right angled triangle is constructed ( ∆ABC ) AB is perpendicular, BC is base and AC is Hypotenuse

  • Step 6 : Now, We can find the measure of hypotenuse (AC) by applying pythagoras theorem to the ABC.
