ice floats on water because density ofice is less than water. In common language we can say ice floats onwater because it is lighter than water. Any solid when place in a liquid buoyancy force that is equal to the weight of volume of liquid displaced by it.

analomous property of water
in which by freezing water it's density increase and at 4 degree it remain constant than it expand and freeze at 0 degree
