1. first bring a magnet close to that group of iron nail and wood shavings
2.Iron contractes when magnet is brought close to it so it will seperate out from the wood shavings.

Ans. We can use strong magnets to separate small iron nail from the wood shavings. As iron is magnetic and wood isn't the magnet attracts the small iron nails and leaves behind the wood shavings.
