for an example:-

  1. take a solution of sodium hydroxide.
  2. add few drops of phenolphthalein on test tube containing sodium hydroxide
  3. you will observe that the colour of the solution turns magenta
  4. add few drops of any acid for an example hydrochloric acid would be suitable for that.
  5. after adding few drops of hydrochloric acid you will observe that the magenta colour of the sodium hydroxide disappears and becomes colourless and the original colour for the colourless nature of sodium hydroxide arises.
  6. this signifies that the equivalent mass of sodium hydroxide has reacted with the equivalent mass of hydrochloric acid.
  7. Thus acid and base had neutralized each other.
