How can we tell which metal's ore a substance is? For example haematite is an ore of iron. How do we get to know this? Is it related to nomenclature?

Answer:

by memorising the formula

for heamatite Fe2O3 is formula

you can see that iron is the only metal there

I think it's not related to nomenclature

because heamatite comes from Greek word haima, or ema, meaning 'blood,' as it shows a blood red color when cut into thin slices
