The evolution of wild cabbage was through artificial selection, meaning that human beings selected the characters they wanted and bred for these characters only.

For example when they wanted a lot of leaves, they created cabbage. When they want arrested flower growth, they created broccoli. When they wanted sterile flowers, they made cauliflower.

In the above case, broccoli and cauliflower have evolved to have different structures as compared to the primitive wild cabbage
