How can white dwarfs be both hot and dim?

A white dwarf is relatively hot, but it's also very small (about the size of the Earth). For example, the nearby white dwarf Sirius B has a temperature a little more than 4 times that of the Sun's temperature, but its radius is about 0.008 times that of the Sun's.
