Since you already know that one Zinc nitrate and the other Zinc carbonate, do the simple carbonate test: Add dilute HC to both salts. Zn nitrate will not effervesce (release of gas bubbles); the zinc carbonate will release gas (CO2).

Zn(NO3)2 + HCl => Zn++ NO3 = H+ Cl-(Ions in solutions)

ZnCO3 + 2HCL => ZnNO3 +H2O + CO2

P.S. Don’t worry about getting Hydrochloric if you are not in a lab, a little lemon juice or vinegar will do the trick.
