how can you distinguish metals and non metals on the basis of electronic configuration ?​

If an element have more than 4 electrons in its outermost shell than it will be considered as non-metal and an element having less than 4 electrons in its outermost shell it will be a metal.

metals are form cation as they donate electrons and have positive charge while non metals form anion as they gain electrons and have negative charge
