Sound energy is produced when an object vibrates. The sound vibrations cause waves of pressure that travel through a medium, such as air, water, wood or metal. Sound energy is a form of mechanical energy.

Sound waves are able to vibrate the diaphragm inside our ears . So we hear. Vibration means mechanical energy. If there is no energy then the diaphragm doesn't vibrate.

Actually sound travels in the form of pressure waves in air.
