Answer:French before 1789 had 3 estates ,which divided the people.
1st estate includes the clergy
2nd estate includes Royalty and noble
3rd estate includes small businessman,clerk,farmer,etc
The estates general would call a meeting to the emperor to discuss the revenue and taxes and other matters.
The first two estates were represented by 200 members each who were made to sit facing other.
The third estate was represented by its most wealthy ,respected and educated personalities(members).
The other people of the third estate were made to stand outside.However their grievances were written and carried by its representatives.
Louis XVI infuriated the crowd when he refused to accept the demands of the third estate .They seeked that each vote should be counted for each member of all the three estates.
Seeing Louis XVI not cooperate with them,they marched out of the place and swore to bring contituitional monarchy.
This is one of the reasons that led to French Revolution.
