I can purify an impure piece of copper by using or taking an impure copper rod as anode and a thin plate of pure copper as cathode,And prepare an electrolytic cell containing an acidified solution of copper sulphate which is used as an electrolyte.

• When electric current is passed through the copper sulphate solution, the Cu2+ ion ion will be come from the impure copper rod which is used as an anode, and this Cu2+ ion get dissolve in the solution. These ions go to the cathode and get diposited on it.

• And in the other side the sulphate inos from the solution combine with the impure copper anode and form copper sulphate.

At cathode: Cu2+ + 2e-    —reduction—› Cu

At anode : Cu– 2e- —oxidation—›Cu2+
