You can distinguish them from their location and brightness. Venus is also known as morning and evening star. So, you will not find Venus near the zenith. It is located at certain angle above eastern or western horizon. However, Jupiter can be found anywhere near the eciliptic (path traced by the sun in the sky during the day). Also Venus is far brighter than Jupiter.
