Answer -

• Plants purify the air as they release oxygen in the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis.

• The oxygen is used by animals and plants during respiration.

•Plants have the unique ability of using carbon dioxide ( released as a result of respiration and by burning of fossil fuels ) during the process of photosynthesis.

•For this reason for are called green lungs or the lungs of the Earth.

•Plants thus maintain the balance of Oxygen and Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
