AO Hume a retired British member of Indian civil services was the founder of Indian National Congress. I think that he was not exactly interested in Indian culture and literature. He was sent by Britishers to know the administrative drawbacks and suggest the means to rectify them. Also Britishers want Congress to act as safety guard for their work.
