One of the key features of a Democratic rule is that it allows peaceful transition from one government to another by means of elections. If people are not satisfied with present government, its policies its way of functioning they can always elect another party to form government. Though, it ensures that no government is elected for lifetime or then turn tyrannical, but it also brings about changes in the political leadership and along with that changes in the policies.

Since democracy is all about numbers and is often termed as rule of majority there have been cases when government has not been able to complete its term and Parliament has been dissolved and we have witnessed mid term elections to elect new government. For example, Janta party two year rule from 1977-79, then government from 1996-1998 saw three prime ministers within a span of two years with elections to the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998. This leads to political instability in the country.
