Chemical Change : A chemical change is such a change in which one or more substances react to form new products . These changes are irreversible and the products have a different set of properties than that of the reactants .

Digestion of food is a chemical change . A few simple reasons for it are :

• The digested food(which was earlier , say a roti in perfect shape ) cannot be brought back in its original shape and original constituents by any method.
• There is a formation of a new substance . The complex carbohydrates , fats , starch etc are broken down into simple substances like acids , fatty acids , glucose , amino acids etc .

Its a chemical change because many digestive enzymes are reactes with bolus or digestion such as pepsin.
