How can you say that particle have sapce between them in matter?

we can prove that by a activity...
1. Take 100ml of water.
2.Dissolve 10 g of salt in it.
3. Measure again and you will observe that the volume of water is same this indicates particle have space b/w them in which the salt particle goes...

for it,we have to perform the activity with water and sugar
the fact that there is no change in the volume on dissolving sugar in water tells us that there are spaces between them
