How can you say that particles of matter attract each other

Particles of matter attract each other.

Because

There's a force that acts on the particulate matter that keeps it together. This proves that attraction varies from particles of one substance to another. Cohesion means the force of attraction between the particulate matter of the same substance...

  • In solids the intermolecular distance is very less, therefore force of attraction between particles is maximum.

  • In liquids the intermolecular distance and force of attraction  between the particles is intermediate between solids and gases. There exist least forces of attraction between particles of gases as the particles present far from each other.
