In the process of photosynthesis the organism(e.g. plant) takes carbon dioxide from animals and other organisms, uses solar energy, water to form its own food. in this chemical process, the organism gives out oxygen into the atmosphere which is again used by animals to form carbon dioxide and again this process happens. So this process is like a cycle, hence maintaining a balance between Oxygen and Carbon dioxide.
