t takes a certain minimum number of people in order to produce complex things like say automobiles, or airplanes. For example, if there were only say 1 million people on Earth, we would not be capable of building the cars we have today. More people allows more labor specialization so that some people can be exclusively working on copper mining, or rubber manufacturing for example. That specialization enables greater productivity.

However, this question and the other answers are avoiding the other side of the equation. What is the cost of more people? Consider two fundamental facts of nature that are generally always overlooked.
