The particles are tightly packed in solids.
But in fluids the particles have some gap in between them.
The vibrations travel quickly in solids than in any fluid.
So sound travels fastest in solids

Sound travels fastest in solids, lesser in liquids and least in gases. It's because solids are tightly packed when compared to liquids and gases as density affects the velocity of sound. Thus, it travels fastest in solids. And it's speed in solids is nearly 5000m/s (steel).
