How can you show that liquids expands on heating

Take a calibrated beaker, put water to a specific level, say L1 then start heating.

The container will expand first , reducing the level of water then when the heat reaches the water it will expand to another level say L3

Check the difference between L3 and L1.

Note that the container expands reducing the liquid first to a level, lets call it L2. This level is ignored and hence we only use L3 and L1.
