Actually it depends on the type of waves
for eg Transverse and longitudinal waves
In transverse waves the direction of propagation of wave is perpendicular to the direction of motion of string and it travels in vacuum not require and medium because they consist of oscillating electric (E) and magnetic (B) fields which are perpendicular. eg em waves and light whereas in longitudinal waves displacement of the particle is along the direction of wave and it requires a medium for propagation for eg sound waves it represents longitudinal waves because they consist of rarefaction and compression which are propagating in the wave.
*medium can be solid or liquid or gas which also depends on their intermolecular forces between the molecules.

sound needs a medium to travel from one place to another so sound can travel in solid due to its intermolecular space present between them through which the sound can travel in solid

➧To Show that Sound can travel through Soilds:-▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬⤵
①❭ Place a wrist watch at one end of a wooden table.
②❭ Stand at the other end of the table.
③❭ Try to hear the ticking of the watch.
④❭ Place your ear on the table & listen.
➧ You will observe that the ticking of the watch sound louder when heard through wood.
[1] Sound can travel through solids .
[2] Sound travel through a solid medium better than through a gaseous medium.
